Α 37 years old female, lost her lower left 35, 36 and 37 during her teens. The CBCT showed us that we had a thin ridge of about 3mm width from the top of the ridge to a height of 5mm towards the inferior alveolar nerve, so we needed a lateral augmentation of at least 5mm in width to accommodate 3 implants of at least a 4.2mm diameter.

We decided to use the Split bone plate technique (Khoury) modified by Dr. Frank Zastrow. A bone plate was harvested from the external oblique area and was split in two plates of about 1.5mm thick and one plate was secured on the lateral wall with 2 10mm screws. Bone chips were harvested from the other plate using a bone scraper and they were packed between the ridge and the bone plate. The graft was given a period of 4 months to integrate and we went back to place our implants. We had a gain of 8mm in width of pure autogenous bone and 3 implants of 4.2mm in diameter were placed. Three months later, a 3-unit screw retained zirconia bridge was provided.
